Bernard Szajner – Visions of Dune

"Albert C EP" is the forthcoming release on IMPETO Records (@impetorec) by DNAonDNA (@dnaondna3000), german kid already seen on the first volume of District Sound Sampler. The EP features 2 original mixes and 2 remixes from ILLSTRCT (@illstrct) and Crust Punk Techno (@crustpunktechno). The originals are just a dashing marathon toward chaos: ‘Albert C’ is a dance floor killer with its spacious synths and percussions; ‘Albert B’ instead is a straight forward kick in your face with its hypnotic vocals and the waves of hand-claps. ILLSTRCT’s remix of ‘Albert C’ offers a more arranged way of seeing the original with its metallic hi-hats’ pattern. Crust Punk Techno’s remix of ‘Albert B’ changes the pace of the track and give us a disturbing house-ish atmosphere.

“Albert C EP” is frothcoming IMPETO Records on May 6 in the the full-streamable and free-downloadable format.

1 - Albert C
2 - Albert B
3 - Albert C (ILLSTRCT Remix)
4 - Albert B (Crust Punk Techno Remix)

For his next release Rødhåd returns to Token for the second time and the ‘Haumea’ EP is about as menacing as you can get. It comes as an original track with two edits running alongside and we have the premiere of the title cut.

From the very first beat the track comes steam-training through with dense kick drums and space-age bleeps before an energetic hi-hat joins the party. Place yourself in Berghain and 7am, if you were to hear ‘Haumea’ at this point then you’d either be scraping yourself from the walls or fist-pumping with intent. This is tough, rolling and oh so Rødhåd.

Silent Servant - Jealous God x fabric Mix. Juan Mendez, a guy who’s much better known as Silent Servant, is the brains behind some of the most creatively presented music today. His first major rise to prominence was as part of Sandwell District and as well as lending sonics to the mix, his main thing was providing the art direction and that particular aesthetic that really helped Sandwell District reach the level of iconic status that it did. It’s been well documented that the project was drawn to a close last year with the fabric 69 mix turning into its swansong, so as the massive fans we are, we were always going to be in the wings with baited breath waiting for news on what any of collective’s next ventures would be.

Well, back in 2013, Jealous God was born; a project creatively backed not only by Mendez but also by James Ruskin and Regis, who of course was another contingent of Sandwell District. And much like Sandwell, over its six releases to date, Jealous God has not only instilled a thought provoking aesthetic from out of the musical contents of the records but the art has also become deeply rooted as the mode of the label’s presentation, creating another beacon for brutal yet brooding techno.

It’s quite right then that we have invited the label to host a night here in Room Two on Saturday 20th September and to represent exactly what Jealous God stands for sonically, Silent Servant has stepped up to deliver an exclusively recorded mix featuring a wealth of Jealous God output…

The 198th Podcast of my weekly Podcast show Invite’s Choice with guest: Joel Mull

Joel Mull is a rare breed amongst electronic music producers. Classically trained on the piano from a young age, Joel’s musical understanding goes beyond the traditional primal dancefloor dynamics often associated with techno. Having been bitten by the techno bug before he left school, his career in music began in 1993, and has been moving upwards ever-since, projecting his soulful slant on the techno blueprint and in the process providing the more musical, emotive ying to the colder, percussive yang of traditional techno. As such Joel occupies a special place within the scene, respected for not just his forward-thinking musical output and long, winding sets of deep and melodic tones but also for being a hard-working professional who has spent his time well, progressively working his way up the techno ladder with a consistent, clearly defined musical style.

When detailing Joel Mull’s production career it’s almost easier to name the labels that he is yet to appear on than to list the magnitude of seminal labels that have come calling for his work. Brief highlights include Harthouse (who released Joel’s most recent album ‘The Observer’, Superstition, Turbo, Music Man, Cocoon, Drumcode, EC Records, Audiomatique, Liebe*Detail, Jericho and Saved Records. This variety of labels says everything about the versatility of Joel’s approach to making music and his ability to balance sounds from across the spectrum with heavy-duty rhythms, chords, and melody.

A product of the small but highly productive scene that has grown up in Stockholm, it comes as no surprise that Joel’s discography is heavy on associations with other key players in the creation of the distinctive Swedish techno sound such as Adam Beyer, Jesper Dahlback and Cari Lekebusch. 2010 will see Joel appear on Dahlback newly launched International Sound Laboratory label, remixing Cari Lekebusch’s ‘Cold Blood’ while there will be follow ups to 2009’s Forming Dies and Passing Through singles on Beyer’s Drumcode and Truesoul labels including the release of Joel’s third artist album.

As a DJ, Joel brings the same qualities he has exhibited in his studio work to the live arena. Comfortably combining music from across a range, Joel is a dynamic and interactive DJ who blends rolling basslines, harmonic synths, and energetic percussions to craft an infectious and atmospheric sound. Regularly touching down across Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America, Joel enjoys a worldwide fan base. Most at home when building the marathon sets that allow him to explore the range of his musical inspiration, the Joel Mull sound has become a key part of the Drumcode events at which Joel enjoys a privileged residency and regularly plays back-to-back with Adam Beyer.
